The first content of the course was prepared in 2002-2003 by Nikolai Grube’s collaborators: Elisabeth „Liz” Wagner and Sven Gronemeyer, very well-known Maya epigraphers from Germany. The course was conducted under the scientific supervision of Nikolai Grube. The participation of researchers from the Institute of Anthropology and Archaeology of the Americas, University of Bonn, a unit of an interdisciplinary nature (conducting research and didactics related to Latin American studies, ethnology, archaeology and cultural studies) brought an unique academic level to the course. In addition to learning the basics of Maya hieroglyphic writing, the course is also an excellent introduction to Maya archaeology and even to the Mayan language.
